Every week I read at least one post that talks about how to be a better blogger. Sometimes the messages are consistent with each other and other times, they are polar opposites. The problem is that, like most professions, bloggers range from beginner to professional. And while you obviously fall somewhere along this spectrum, this advice is tailored towards those newer to blogging.
One of the biggest obstacles bloggers encounter is finding the time to write. There are always other things to focus on and other things to take care of. Sitting down, staring off into space, thinking of your next profound sentence, writing a paragraph, editing a post, and re-reading your content can be time consuming. It is also often dreaded by those not yet comfortable with their writing.
My repeated suggestion is to set time aside on a regular basis to do your blogging. Whether it's an hour a day or a couple hours a week. Whatever the amount of time you can commit to, schedule it and adhere to it.
It's all about creating blogging behavior patterns!
When you're getting started, you need to find consistency. I know I've preached this before, but I felt like it was worth bringing up again.
You need to create consistency in your blog posting schedule but you also need to create consistency in your writing. So, how can we achieve this? The best way I can suggest achieving this, is to make blogging a habit.
You have to realize that we, as humans, are creatures of habit.
You see, every morning I have the exact same routine. I am NOT a morning person. Never have been and doubt I ever will be. Unfortunately, I have to get up at zero dark thirty every morning to get to work by 6:30 am. And the only way I can drag my butt successfully to work is to repeat the same behaviors every morning. I literally get ready in the same manner every day, I eat breakfast at the same time every morning, and I keep my purse and my lunch bag in the same place every day (so that I don't forget them!). If I didn't do these things, I'd probably go to work without shoes on some mornings!
So, if you're someone who doesn't love blogging (yet), or who hasn't mastered the scheduling, or who has commitment issues to writing, try making blogging a part of your regular routine. Calendar time every day at the same time, or every week on the same days. By making it a recurring habit, you'll find yourself doing it with more ease and less aggravation.
Before you know it, your internal alarm clock will start reminding you that it's time to write. You'll start scheduling other meetings or commitments around your blogging time, rather than the other way around (which you're likely doing right now).
By creating a blogging behavior, your blogs will grow and reward you. They always say, anything worth doing, is worth doing well. So, find the time, make it a regular routine, and get to blogging!

Well said Jenn! Anything that is worth doing needs to become ingrained in your routine and in your behavior. Scheduling those things helps that become a reality.
