How to Fix Your Square Instagram Photos in the New Grid Layout
Well, Instagram is going to be changing the profile grid to a new portrait layout. Gone are the days of our long-lived squares, and here comes the new portrait mode.
But, what to do about all your previous posts that are squares and which won’t look good in the new layout??
Fortunately, there is a fix you can use.
1. Choose any post on your profile
2. Tap on the 3-dot button in the upper right corner of the post
3. Tap on “Adjust preview”
4. Drag the photo left/right or up/down (depending on original configuration) to fit in the new portrait crop
5. Or, choose “Fit” to condense your square image into the center of the portrait crop, leaving a white or black border at the top and bottom of the post. This is not ideal in terms of esthetics, but at least it keeps your square images square.
This definitely isn’t perfect. But it’s what we’ve got. And, if you end up moving to the new portrait format, in time, all of these funky square posts will be far enough back that no one will really notice. And also, remember that you’re not alone in this!! We are all going through the same shift to the new layout and we all have the same impact on old posts.
