I had so much fun putting together this Slideshare presentation of my biggest Instagram Irritations and my favorite Instagram Insights. I hope you’ll enjoy them too!

This is a fun, easy to follow list of some of the Instagram etiquette issues and best business practices to help you master Instagram quickly and efficiently.

Because of the square shape of the slides, make sure you SCROLL through the presentation. If you use the forward arrows, some of the content on each slide will get skipped

Did you find this helpful? Please share:
  1. Loved the article Jenn. I always learn something new from your posts.

I agree video has been surprisingly powerful for me on Instagram. And since it’s only 15 seconds, it forces me to create something unique just for my Instagram followers.

  2. Jenn, do you have any suggestions for how to do the testing on Instagram? And how to gauge the popularity of different hastags? I’m all about the testing, I just don’t know how to run it.

Instagram metrics by Iconosquare? And, naturally, bit.ly can help with the link tracking – do you have any other good link shortening/tracking recommendations?

    Thank you!

    1. I definitely recommend using Iconosquare for analytics. One of the graphs they give you has great info on when your audience is most interactive with your posts and this helps determine when your ideally posting times are.
However, I also recommend you test different times. Try posting in the morning and in the afternoon and at night. See which posts get the most interaction. Also try testing different content. Find what types of content (custom graphics, photos, videos) work best for your audience. Just remember that what “works” today may not be the same thing that works next month. As your audience grows and evolves, your strategy will also need to evolve. So keep testing!
And, I recommend goo.gl as well as bit.ly for shortened and trackable links.

  3. Great presentation Jenn! Love all those tips, and as an active IG user, I’ve seen other profiles fail to follow some of these recommendations and it can be annoying.

    1. Thanks Paul! Glad you enjoyed them. And, yes, those other accounts can get annoying. I choose to ignore or even block when necessary to avoid them.

  4. Great presentation – I just started to mess with slideshare too and it is pretty fun adding in those images to create a presentation.

I wanted to ask you about the latest thing that’s been irritating my Instagram account – new followers who are young women looking “to chat”. I get like 2 -3 a day and it feels so spammy. I can’t figure out how to make it stop or do I even report them? Any advice you can give me would be appreciated 🙂

    1. Thanks Penney! So glad you enjoyed the post. I love working with Slideshare to incorporate fun new content into my blog posts 🙂 I hope you enjoy it too!
I haven’t seen what you’re referencing specifically, but I’d either ignore, or even block them if it seems spammy or intrusive. There are a lot of people using IG for reasons other than us. And, unfortunately, when we use popular hashtags, it invites these people into our worlds. All you can do is force them out and move on with what you’re doing. And, yes, you can report them when you block them or delete their comments. Don’t be afraid to do that too.
