If you’re tired of seeing weird videos or photos in your Explore page, content from people you don’t really want in your feed, or Reels of topics you don’t actually want to see, then it’s time to reprogram your Instagram algorithms!
It might sound complicated, but it’s really not! Instagram uses a smart algorithm that learns from your behavior and will show you more of what you show an interest in.
Here are three quick tips you can do right now to start re-training Instagram to show you the things you want to see:
Tip #1 – go to the accounts of people you follow that you want to see more of. Chances are you had stopped positively interacting with them and their content got demoted in your feeds. But just visiting their profiles and looking at some of their content will tell Instagram you want to see more of them.
Tip #2 – ENGAGE positively with the types of content you want to see. If you want to see more content from your favorite reality TV star, make sure to interact with their content. Want to see your high school crush’s content? Same thing – but you don’t even have to “like” the content! Simply stopping to watch a video a little longer, lingering to look at a photo, opening up the caption, scrolling through a carousel post, navigating to their profile, clicking on a sticker in a Story, scrolling back to see something again. All of these are positive actions that tell Instagram you like this content
Tip #3 – STOP interacting with the content you don’t want! If your feed or Explore is full of videos of barbershop haircuts or crazy drivers in foreign countries… STOP watching those videos or looking at those posts! Every time you do (as catchy as they are), you are telling Instagram that you like the content and then they keep finding more to share with you. Seriously, just stop giving your good energy to bad content.
