I am obsessed with Instagram. Ok, you probably already know that. But, I just want to state it for the record

I wrote a blog post a while ago, 25 Signs You Work in Social Media, and it was a huge hit. It was fun – and true. And I pretty much felt like I owed a similar post to my favorite topic of Instagram. And that’s when I realized that most of us obsessed with Instagram all suffer from the same things.

Here they are!

1. You check Instagram all day long. Studies have shown that 57% of Instagram users log on daily. That’s cute. Daily. Try at least hourly for us!

2. Instagram is the first site you check in the morning and the last site you check before bed. And then check once more before really going to bed.

3. Your food is always cold by the time you eat it. After staging, rearranging, changing camera angles, and finally getting the perfect shot, you still have to upload it. Oh, that’s right. We were actually hungry…

4. You think in terms of filters. That sunset, that flower, that wedding dance, that cupcake, that cloud, that birthday party, everything. You know exactly which filter is going to make that shot look sooo much better.

5. You know exactly which filters remove wrinkles and crow’s feet. And you know exactly which ones make them look worse. Eek!

6. When people ask which filter you use, you can’t answer with only one. You’ve mastered the art of multiple filter editing. And pre-upload edits too.

7. You have a whole folder/page/section of apps devoted to photo-taking and photo-editing. And you have the photo enhancement, collage, text overlay apps organized accordingly for quick (yeah, maybe not so quick) editing and uploading.

8. Inspirational images are so not inspirational on a plain background. Seriously. If it’s not on a gorgeous landscape or stunning photo, it isn’t really that inspirational.

9. You’ve actually watched events through your camera to ensure you get the best capture. You’re actually surprised at how things look for real when you look up from your camera.

10. You buy new mobile devices based on the camera quality and features. Who cares about the phone features, right?

11. You know all your Iconosquare stats including lost followers, best times to post, and your most popular posts. And you celebrate when a new photo takes the lead for most liked or most commented on post.

12. You look at your outfits, accessories, event participation, and choice of entertainment based on how they will look on Instagram. Because if it won’t look good on Instagram, why would you do it?

13. You have tried to double-tap Facebook posts and other social media posts to like them. Why can’t they be so easy?

Whether your friends and family get it, it’s who we are. We are obsessed with Instagram. And we will continue to do the things listed above – and more! Let us rally together

What other Instagram behaviors are you “guilty” of? Let’s add to the list by chiming in the comments below!

  1. It’s all about food; and selfies of course.. Anyway, I can not believe how Instagram is so popular when it aims only at smartphones!

    1. It is surprising given its “limitations” but sometimes I think that makes it that much more valuable and relevant to people.
